Meet Our IoA Fellows

Abhishek Suman is a senior software engineer, inventor, and technical leader specializing in large-scale distributed systems, real-time analytics, and cybersecurity platforms. With more than fourteen years of experience, he has built and led mission-critical data and security infrastructures for globally significant organizations, including Microsoft, Apple, and the Government of India. His work is centered on architecting resilient, high-throughput systems that operate at massive scale while delivering actionable intelligence, security, and reliability.

Since 2019, Mr. Suman has served as a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, where he architects foundational cybersecurity and cloud analytics platforms for the Azure ecosystem. He is the lead engineer behind the Azure Synapse Detection Platform, a multi-region, horizontally scalable streaming analytics system that processes tens of millions of events per second to enable near real-time threat detection across more than twenty million enterprise machines. This platform substantially reduced mean time to detect critical security threats and established a unified, highly resilient data backbone for Microsoft’s security operations. In parallel, he designed and implemented an end-to-end cybersecurity monitoring and analytics solution for Azure data centers, integrating endpoint, network, and operational technology telemetry into Azure Sentinel to close major visibility gaps and strengthen incident response capabilities.

Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Suman held technical leadership roles at Apple and Wipro, where he led the development of advanced real-time analytics and applied machine learning platforms. At Apple, he served as Technical Lead for a streaming analytics system that analyzed large volumes of unstructured public data using natural language processing and anomaly detection to identify brand risks, security issues, and emerging trends. Earlier, at Wipro’s CTO Innovation Lab, he architected a real-time video analytics platform for global retail clients, delivering predictive insights into customer behavior, inventory availability, and operational efficiency.

Mr. Suman began his career contributing to India’s Aadhaar program, the world’s largest biometric identity system, where he engineered scalable, secure components of the Automated Biometric Identification System supporting national-scale authentication and digital inclusion. In addition to his engineering leadership, he is a prolific inventor and the sole or co-inventor on multiple U.S. patents in distributed data management, memory systems, security analytics, and intelligent infrastructure optimization.

Currently, Mr. Suman continues to focus on building next-generation cybersecurity and data analytics platforms that secure critical cloud infrastructure, advance real-time threat detection, and push the boundaries of scalable distributed computing.
