Azhaguvelan (Velan) Thayumanavan is a Principal Solution Architect in AT&T’s Chief Data Office, where he designs and leads large-scale data and artificial intelligence platforms that support nationwide operations, intelligent decision-making, and digital transformation. With two decades of experience in technology, his career spans enterprise software engineering, big data platforms, and advanced AI systems across the telecom and airline industries. Over the last several years, his work has focused deeply on AI-driven optimization, ML, generative AI, agentic AI systems, and NLP, translating complex algorithms into production systems that operate at national scale. Velan has architected mission-critical solutions solving trillion-scale optimization problems, enabled real-time AI-driven planning systems, and delivered platforms that generate significant operational and business impact.

Beyond industry delivery, he is an active contributor to the broader data science and AI community. His work includes industry publications, conference and panel presentations, participation as a judge and reviewer in hackathons and innovation forums, and ongoing collaboration with universities and academic communities. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and an Executive Member of the Institute of Analytics (IoA) and IA Forum, reflecting sustained professional recognition and leadership within the field.
